My Little Daredevil

+

I think I'm going to have my hands full with this one!  Micah has been into everything this week and he's still not really able to move where he wants to go.  I'm going to be in a world of hurt when he starts crawling (which I think will be any day now).  He's able to get from sitting to his belly and took a nose dive in the tub tonight.  It was like slow motion but I still couldn't get to him quick enough.  He's been pulling himself up to his knees but can't quite figure out how to get to his feet.  It might be time to think about moving the crib down a notch.  This little guy is ALL BOY!

Changing Every Day

So everyone says "they grow up too fast".  Wow!  They do!

Each week Micah learns something new.  Right now he's able to get up on all 4's and rock back and forth.  We're thinking he'll figure out how to crawl by Christmas.  I guess all those ornaments on the bottom of the tree will have to be moved a little higher.  He's also become very independent with eating which is a little frustrating for me.  He's able to feed himself puffed rice and crackers.  This is all he wants to eat now!  He's fought me the last few nights when eating his veggies at dinner but still does ok with fruit.  Maybe it's time to start with some different finger foods.

He's also able to stand up on his own with assistance.  He has a little walking toy but Micah hasn't quite figured out how to move his feet to keep up with the toy.  It just rolls right out in front of him, and he'd fall flat on his face if we weren't there to catch him.  He's rolling everywhere too!  I can't sit him in one place any longer.  He's mastered rolling and scooting to where he wants to go.  His hair is getting thicker and longer and it's got a lot of wave to it.  Finally something from my genes!  He mostly resembles his daddy (which i think is cute), but I think he may have my curly hair.  I'm going to love that!

This is what you call a bad day

A few weeks ago I had one of the worst days of my life.  It was a normal Friday afternoon and I work from 745-415.  It was like any other day.  I dropped Micah off at PALS (his daycare) and headed into work just a few blocks away.  It's not in the best part of Peoria and our office will be moving to the north side of Peoria in just a few weeks.  The clock hit 415 and I walked out to the parking lot to leave.  I really wasn't paying that much attention.  I didn't notice anything when I was walking up to my car.  I got in the drivers seat and closed the door.  I heard a weird sound in the back seat and I jumped out of my skin!  I thought someone was in the back of my car.  I turned around to see my back windshield in my back seat!  The carseat was covered with glass and that's when I lost it.  I ran back inside to get security and was on the verge of tears.  If I were anywhere else, Micah would  have been in the back seat and the glass would have come in right on top of him.  I'm so thankful that God kept him safe at daycare.  We think the window was shot in by something.  There was a spot on the side of the car and a place in the glass that appeared to be a bullet hole.  I'm still thinking it was a BB gun (or at least that's what I keep telling myself).  Thank you Lord for keeping me and my baby boy safe!

Think we can call this a sunroof?

Let It Snow!

Micah got to see snow for the first time this week!  He didn't quite know what to think of it and definitely didn't like the cold.  We have been bundling him up in a snowsuit that our friend George let us borrow.  He's so cute!  He looks just like the little boy in "A Christmas Story" that screams "I can't move my arms".  He hates it and screams each time we bundle him up.  Sorry little buddy but we gotta keep you warm ;)  Aunt Toni came up today and Micah had his first experience playing in the snow.  He didn't quite know what to do.  He was kinda like "its cold and can't we go inside?".  We were only out for a few minutes but took a couple of pics while we were at it.  I can't wait until he gets a little older and we can build a snowman together and make snow angels.  Oh the fun we will have in years to come!
"What is this stuff?"

Fun's over.....Here come the tears :(

"I love aunt Toni!"

Fun With Santa

What a great day today was.  Aunt Toni came up to visit us and we had such a good time.  First off to Olive garden for soup and salad.  Then to the mall for pictures with Santa and some shopping.  Micah was such a trooper.  I knew he would do well.  He'll go to just about anyone (kinda scary when you think about it).  He was sitting in his stroller just taking it all in.  The huge Christmas tree and the chubby guy wearing a funny red outfit.  Santa had a real beard and Micah gave it a big tug to make sure it was real.  Micah told him what he wanted for Christmas (or maybe Mommy did that:) and we got a great couple of pictures.  We tried to shop but the little guy was too tired.  He fell asleep within 2min of hitting the car seat.

Longest Day Ever

I forgot that everything takes twice as long with a baby.  I've allowed for more time in wal-mart, in the mornings, and before church. I never thought a trip home would take 7hrs!  We started out late.  I had the flu yesterday and went to bed at 7 last night.  We woke early this morning to start on laundry and packing.  5 hours later we were packed fed and ready to go.  At noon we left and made it about 45 min and Micah started screaming and didn't stop for most of the trip.  We finally arrived to mom's around 7. Micah and I were both glad to be out of the car.  I'm so thankful to be here safe and sound.

Waiting

So it's nearly 12am and I'm fighting to stay awake to see Nathan when he gets home.  His shift ended at 10:30 but he's never out of there on time.  The 10.5hr shifts usually turn into 12's.  I just keep telling myself "this is only for a time".  When he's finished, he'll average ~33hr/wk.  I can totally handle that.  This 60-80hr work week getting paid for only 40hrs is for the birds!

On a happier note, Nate doesn't go into work tomorrow until 3:30 so we plan to decorate the tree.  I know its a little early, but last year I got the Christmas tree up 5 days before Christmas.  I figure we need to get a lot more use out of it this year :)  We're traveling home to be with family for 6 days and I know I'm not going to feel like messing with it when we get back.  Unfortunately, Micah and I are heading out alone.  Nathan is working and we wouldn't get to see him much if we stayed here.  He'll be meeting up with us on Sunday in Effingham for Micah's newborn dedication and a belated Thanksgiving dinner.  Do you think it's too early to put in his vacation request for this week next year?  I try to roll with it but it's hard not being able to be with him on the holidays.  I'm so looking forward to Micah's first Christmas and Nathan is off too!  It's going to be such a great holiday!  I can't wait!

Ring, ring!  Just got a call from Nate and he's on his way home :)  Goodnight!

Hello Again

So this is the second time I'm attempting to keep up with a blog.  I wasn't so great at keeping up with it the first time but have a much better plan this time.  Ok, no plan really.  I just realize that our family and friends at home may be interested in what we're doing here and this will give me more room than facebook to display our adventures.

So what is it about us that would make you want to follow this blog?  Well, nothing really, but I think we're kinda cool (or maybe a little dorky too :)  I'm a part time stay at home mom (my favorite job) and part time dietitian at the VA clinic here in Peoria.  I love both jobs but just wish I could be two places at once.  I hate being away from my favorite little man Micah!  I can't believe he is 7 months today!  Where did time go.  It seems like just yesterday we were driving to the hospital still in disbelief that my water broke.  Now he's babbling "da-da", "ma" and "ball"!  Sitting up like a big boy, eating fruits and veggies and able to stand with assistance.  I wish I could freeze time!  My husband Nathan works at OSF in Peoria, IL as an ER resident and superhero (at least he is in my eyes).  It's great to have an MD on hand 24hr a day.  I do hear a lot of stories, some good and some bad.  One of my favorite times of the day is when he gets home to tell me about his day.  I just wish it wasn't at 3am.  Unfortunately, he works nights and I work days so if it weren't for 3am we would go for days without speaking.  I just keep telling myself its only 18more months.  It seems like so long, but I guess these first 18 have flown by and are going faster each day.  Well friends, I hope to keep up with this blog again and post lots of fun pictures and adventures that we're having as a family.  We may not be a typical family, but I guess we're the typical resident family.
